Having still worked his family’s farm horse in the fields as a young boy Maurice was always passionate about draught horses but in particular Clydesdales and Shires. In the 1970s he established Tullymore Park Clydesdale Stud and went on to receive major awards at Royal shows for his Clydesdales. In the 1990s he imported Clydesdale stallions from Northern Ireland and Scotland; Vogie Designer was the first ever Clydesdale stallion to be imported from a Northern Irish stud directly to an Australian stud in 1994.

After being on the federal CCHS judges panel for many years Maurice passed his judges assessment for the Shire Horse Society UK panel in 1999. He started his Shire breeding program with imported semen using it over selected Clydesdale mares of his stud, and imported Shire Horse stallion Arclid Adonis in 2003 who is still standing at stud. The first Shire at the stud was Tullymore Prelude Acacia by Nottage Trump Card (A.I.) out of Clydesdale mare Box Valley Nicole, foaled in January 2003, who became Champion Mare & Supreme Exhibit at the National Shire Horse Show at Moss Vale in 2009.

Together with his wife Jutta, a highly respected international Shire Horse UK panel judge as well, they are breeding the finest Clydesdale and Shire Horses and outstanding show winners of both, the Clydesdale and the Shire Horse breed as well as of combined driving harness horses based on Australian and European bloodlines. The stud’s top three Shires include Tullymore Sir Lancealot, Tullymore Eugenie and Tullymore Sir William who all have done exceptionally well for Tullymore as well as for their consecutive owner, winning Royal Show and National Championships besides many regional show Championships and Supremes.

The latest success for the stud’s breeding program and most memorable moment with our Shire Horses happened at the Sydney Royal Easter Show 2018 when Tullymore bred Shires took out all three major awards: Supreme Shire Exhibit & Champion Mare – Tullymore Eugenia (Owner C Lord & D Tiyce), Champion Stallion or Colt – Tullymore Sir Joseph Banks (Owner C & E Thomas, Darkmoor Shires), Best Shire Gelding – Tullymore Sir William (Owner C Lord & D Tiyce)
